"Connect using different credentials" on Windows 10 doesn't work

Hi everyone,

I'm running Veeam on my Windows 10 clients to backup the OS drive to a FreeNAS dataset. To make it harder for my family to accidentally remove / damage backups, I wanted to let Veeam use a different account for accessing the backups-dataset.

However, I'm having trouble connecting to my SMB share using different credentials... Veeam can't connect to it and also when I try to map the drive myself, it doesn't work. Below is how I try to connect. This is while being logged in as...

Access to folders breaks after reboot

Good day.
Started with domain logon. After the reboot, the domain account that connects FreeNAS with AD falls off. Since the policy is enabled on the AD server - Network security: Do mot store Lan Manager hash value on next password change. As a resultafter reboot FreeNAs, I see an error in the logs: am_logon returned ACCESS_DENIED. Maybe the DC has Restrict NTLM set or the trust account password was changed and we didn't know it. Killing connections to domain TASMANA.

Unable to connect to Windows Shares on alias after DC update

Hi all,

We are upgrading our domain controllers from 2008 R2 to 2016. We currently have a single 2008 R2 DC and two 2016 DC's, the plan is to remove the final 2008 R2 DC.

Within FreeNAS I have specified the new server to connect to for Active Directory and have sync'd our user information. Users are able to access CIFS shares fine using a CNAME record 'storage1' (Host name is CNAS04).

The issues start for us once I turn off the old 2008 R2 DC, even though throughout the config in Freenas...

Cannot set ACL permission on Imported Pool

I've imported pools, using the FreeNAS GUI tool, into the lasted version of FreeNAS (11.3-U4) from a previous version v9.3. I imported two pools (both Windows shares) one has done so with no issues, but the other one is refusing to accept any applied ACLs.

When I try and save the setting under Edit ACL it returns the following error massage:

Error: [EINVAL] At least one inheritable ACL entry is required

I've tried all sorts of things to correct it, but to no avail. I would therefore be...

Old Active Directory data still in config

Hi all,

We recently changed our FreeNAS box to point to a different DC and GC for Active Directory as we are decommissioning one of our AD servers. The new server was added, FreeNAS rebooted and the cache rebuilt.
"CWM-DC-01" is the name of our new server.
"CDC01" is the name of the old server.

However when we turn off the old dc "CDC01", it appears that FreeNAS still tries to connect to it, here's the debug output from FreeNAS for...

Hello Everyone, thank you in advance for your help.

I have a freenas box which was disconnected for several months due to a move. I got it all hooked back up but now I'm unable to authenticate. On the console I get the login prompt, when i enter a username i do not get prompted for a password. It ends up timing out after 300seconds. Ive tried to ssh into the box, it looks like its going to work, i get the prompt for the fingerprint, then..... it times out.

The only clue I have is when I...

Possible to create/disable FreeNAS accounts via JNDI?

I have a FreeNAS server running nicely with around 100 users. I would like to start looking into integrating it with some of our middleware such that I would be able to create/disable accounts from middleware written in Java. Is this something that I would need to setup an LDAP server to communicate with FreeNAS to accomplish? Or is there a way to directly communicate with FreeNAS with Java?

Beyond user account creation/disabling, I would really like to be able to create pools and SMB...

Hi all,

I recently upgraded my FreeNAS server (11.2 Stable Train) to 11.2-BETA2 and everything appears to be working fine with other applications (like Plex) but my Hikvision IP cameras storage is listed as offline for two different cameras. When I click on "Test" from NetHDD, I now get an error:

Mounting to NAS server failed. Invalid directory or incorrect user name/password.

In the prior release of FreeNAS, I updated setting for SMB for Auxiliary parameters to: ntlm auth = yes

Hi all,

I am unable to join our domain after upgrading our Freenas to the latest stable release (11.3-U4.1). The interface times out when trying to save the settings.
I've got another FreeNAS box on the same version with the same AD settings connected ok. The output below suggests it has some old info cached somewhere, maybe?

Workgroup parameter has been obfuscated to 'workgroup'

I've tried:

Setting up the freenas for the first time. Followed tutorials off the net but keep coming up with a password problem. When I go to sign in to the drive on backup drive on the nas i use my ip address them it asks me for my credentials, and it says every time the password is wrong. Now I have deleted the user re-added the user and just going round in circles .

Can anyone just walk me through it so i can see what I am doing wrong.

Sorry if this as been asked before,

Many thanks

Hello,

after upgrading FreeNAS to 11.3-U4.1 i have very strange issue.
Every computer Windows 10 Pro that is connected to AD or server with Linux can access share or map it.
Any other station that are not part of AD or don't have Linux when try open share or try map it get that same result "Access Deny" and asked for credentioal over and over again.
What is more strange, AD show that FreeNAS logged success and get credential but on FreeNAS i have this:

Hi All

A few moments, I went through the set up of 2FA via Systems on my TrueNAS Core 12 Beta2 server.
The following are the rough guideline of steps taken:

1. Left everything as it is stated in 2FA
2. Clicked on Enable 2FA
3. Clicked on Show QR Code

At this moment, I used Google Authenticator app from my mobile to scan the QR Code.

Mobile was set up with generating the codes and then I clicked on Save in 2FA.

I logged out as I thought, there was nothing else to do and now when I try to...

Home Folders/ Active Directory

I'm have two issues really.

1. I specify the path to the home folder in active directory to point to freenas and it creates the user home folder but... when I log in as a user it does not sync their home folder to the NAS, instead it just stores it locally on the server like the default behavior.

2. I cannot authenticate to freenas as a domain user at all. It asks for credentials but when using a domain log in it tells me the username or password is incorrect.

As the title states, in the console can I reset to the default settings without loosing any data?

I am having nothing but issues trying to get to the FreeNAS from any system except for one. No matter what password I put in it will not log onto the FreeNAS server and I know what the dang password is.

Unable to use CA cert for encryption in joining active directory in 11.3

I have always been using encryption mode with my own CA in the AD, a setup very similar to this: https://help.univention.com/t/cool-solution-connecting-ucs-to-freenas/12794

However, after updating to 11.3, this setup no longer works. The update process created a cert "migrated for active directory" but the WebGUI refuse to use it to join AD and complains about "no private key", and there shouldn't be any for a (imported) root CA. Additionally, CA (expect for that migrated cert)...

I am having an issue that keeps occurring. I am running FreeNAS-11.3-U3.2 and sharing a dataset over AFP. I have 6 marketing employees that start projects and store all their projects in this share. In the past couple of days, Adobe keeps coming back and saying "you do not have permission to save here" but I can go to finder to the exact location I am trying to save with in Premiere and test my permissions and I CAN write there.

HOWTO: FreeNAS with Open Directory in Mac OS X environments

Hi,

here's a write-up about how to integrate a FreeNAS box into an Open Directory environment, including single-sign on support. I struggled a bit to make this work, this howto is intended for my own documentation and as reference for others who try to achieve the same thing. I believe that this should ultimately be included as a feature into the GUI.

[UPDATE 2020-09-06]:
Updated to reflect changes in FreeNAS 11.3.

As with FreeNAS 11.2, FreeNAS 11.3 has some breaking changes. The...

Hello everyone,

I am using a linux server to handle users and groups through NIS. NIS-Clients work fine on linux but I am unable to import the Maps to FreeNAS.
I followed the manual and searched through the forums and saw , that freeBAS based systems need a "master.passwd" which my ypserver is not creating.
This thread walks about a patch to get said master.passwd file but I was unable to find any further information about this:

Hello all

I am posting this tread because i'm utterly frustrated with my situation. Ever since a versions of freenas back all was simpler for me.

I have windows 10 and windows 7 pcs I am the only user in the house and therefore i really do not need all the security offered by freenas.

my question today is:

can i strip all security on my pools, shares and jails?

i would like to access the shared folders from any pc regardless if win 10 or win 7 the User on all my pcs is me as...
