Hello,

when I try to enable LDAP via FreeNAS UI Directory->LDAP and hit save the data gets saved and I get a green confirmation box 'LDAP successfully updated'. The 'Enable' checkbox becomes unticked though and I can't see my ldap users & groups in user/group select.
The console shows the following:
Code (text):
  1. Dec 22 13:43:56 freenas LDAP: /usr/sbin/service ix-ldap forcestop
  2. Dec 22 13:43:57 freenas LDAP: /usr/sbin/service ix-nsswitch quietstop

I have had a IXSystems FreeNAS Mini working in our Active Directory environment for a few months without issue.

I decided to purchase a second FreeNas Mini to do real-time zfs syncing of the first. I went through the setup wizard and set things up for Active Directory. I changed the hostname to something different than the default "freenas" and then went into Directory Services -> Active Directory and clicked "enable."

This caused the second device to join the domain, but somehow keeping...

CIFS Authentication with AD

Hi, I've currently set up a few shares for Windows and given permission to my groups (see attach). Unfortunately, I can never seem to authenticate the user (guest access works). I am using Samba 4.1 as my AD DC.

I can see the share folders just fine but am unable to enter the folder if I click on them. It asks me to login saying my credentials are invalid. I've since tried every set of credentials for every user (including the administrator) to no avail. I can access FreeNAS through...

Hello,

I tried all troubleshooting tips in freenas documentation. Freenas always show this error. If i specify manually the domain controller i get an error

  • Invalid Host/Port: [Errno 8] hostname nor servname provided, or not known

Freenas server has a registry A on DNS server and _ldap._tcp.domain seems ok. The domain controller is a windows 2003 server.
Ping is ok to every host on DNS server.

AD Users Not Populating

Hi, I'm currently setting up FreeNAS so that it uses 'AD' as the idmap backend when connected to Active Directory. This of course means groups and users must have their GIDs and UIDs set in the UNIX attributes through ADUC.

The issue is that any user provided with a UID does NOT appear in the owner user list while all groups DO appear in the owner group list. All these users can be seen with 'wbinfo -u' but when running 'getent passwd' they do not appear in the listing. This looks like it...

Add Jail User to AD group/GID

Hi, I currently have my AD DC setup on another system (not a jail) via Samba and have FreeNAS connecting to it. What I want to do now is create a jail and have my storage be accessible to the user on the jail. Of course, this jail user is NOT part of my AD group I assigned as the group owner.

I figure I could create a group on the jail with the same GID as that of group owner of the storage. The issue is I'm not sure how to determine the group's GID on FreeNAS (I set it to 10000 with RSAT...

First off our Organization is a windows shop so far in my time here i have introduced a synology to meet budget and this joined our domain (Mixed 2008 R2 and 2012 R2) without fuss to share shared folders.

Freenas has been my next introduction as we need more storage on a budget(backed up naturally). ISCSI works as expected but I am having issues adding our freenas box to the domain for CIFS shares. Can someone help getting this box on the domain? when i try i get this error message:...

So I've got a mixed 2008 R2/ windows 2012 R2 domain, the forest level is 2008 R2 and I've got two freenas boxes configured the same way. One works and one doesn't.

On the FreeNAS box that doesn't work (FreeNAS-9.3-STABLE-201512121950) I get this:

Last sunday in building where my FreeNAS was running fine since 2014 year's december was a electrical maintenance works. Before electrical maintenance was started I turned off FreeNAS server and UPS properly. When maintenance was completed I turned UPS and FreeNAS on and all looked fine. On monday's morning I was needed to create a new user and add a dataset for him and setting up permissions too. No big deal. All was fine until I tried to connect to new created dataset with new created user...

All,

I've got FreeNas 9.3 running, the FreeNas box is set up as domain controller, Active Directory is bound to this domain, and everything seems to be working great, including 105-125MB/sec transfers across a 1Gb network.

But I have one big problem. Whenever I copy a file larger than about 6GB from Windows to the FreeNas share I get this strange behavior. First the file will appear to be copying, speeds ranging between 105-125 MB/sec (1Gb network). Next the status bar goes back to the...

Hi all, just thought I would post because I have spent many days pulling my hair out trying to AD Join FreeNAS to Windows 2012 R2 running at 2012 R2 Domain Function Level . I followed lots of guides and all failed.
Here is what I had to do, I hope it helps others.

On the Windows 2012R2 Domain Controller, I forced the server to accept SMB 1 connections (you should do this on any file servers also in the domain). To do this you have to edit the registry at....

Hello All,
I've been working on this issue for awhile, and I can't seem to get FreeNas to join my Domain. I've done this before in the past with little trouble.

I am getting a ActiveDirectory did not bind to the domain. I searched this issue, and tried the official AD steps, and a bunch of troubleshooting steps I found here on the forum.

I can ping the domain from freenas console, I setup the host info for FreeNAs in the DNS server. I can ping back and forth between the NAS and the DC....

AD service fails to start, unless account is in "Domain Admin" group

I CAN get the AD service to start when making the user part of the "Domain Admins" group. As most system admins, I like to follow least privilege scenario. What rights do I need to delegate to my service account to be able start the AD service. I have already tried giving it access to add computer objects to the domain, but it must need something more.

Is root user the only credentials that can access GUI?

Hi there,

So, I would like to setup FreeNAS to be accessible from outside my local network by means of HTTPS: and port forwarding. My concern is, which users are able to access the GUI? I have tried my own user created accounts and see that they cannot login to the GUI. But, I would like to put my paranoia to rest :). Also, is there any way to change the GUI user?

To sum up:
Can anyone other than root access GUI?
Can I set another user to access GUI rather than root?
(It's vague but I...

Hi Gentlemen,

I am running FreeNAS 9.10.1 on Virtual Box whilst i practice setting up permissions before i deploy it onto my real server and network, basically what i am trying to set up is one share with multiple folders where different users have different permissions as to what they can see/read/write. I am not using AD and have my dataset set to windows permissions.

I can create the share and connect to it with no issues, the problem is when i try to manage the permissions on these...
